It has been days after the highly charged 2015 election between President Goodluck Jonathan and General Buhari in Nigeria. It was very intriguing and I had been very philosophical about the fundamentals on how the whole game played out. I could not vote as I never got my permanent voters card despite over twenty attempts (not kidding) of checking different levels of INEC offices to get the card. I am also not affiliated to any political party directly or indirectly. However, there are hard facts about the message or the “gospel” of this election that I will like to share.

1. THE MORNING WILL COME.

There will always be a time of reckoning or conclusion to all our efforts. It’s always good to ask – where will this end? What will be the result of my efforts? I believe the Nigerian 2015 election was a direct referendum on President Jonathan’s performance. He tried but the fact remains that the atmosphere largely felt like a lot more could have been done. For the General, I remember the scripture that says Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning. A life that does not have  or consistently follow clearly defined goals will always struggle. This man followed his dream and failed three times but kept at it and now its history.

2. FOCUS

I have never seen so much vituperation and foul language used in any electoral contest. This one was A+ when it came to that level of despicable behavior. Some borders were crossed by both parties that were extreme! Mudslinging and abuse reigned by agents of both parties. However, I observed that General Buhari kept his words few and kept his focus. Focus matters! Focus turns ordinary rivers to waterfalls to develop power to carve out mountains. Stick to the game plan. If you are sure that it is God’s plan for you – stick to the game plan!

3.  NO CONDITION IS PERMANENT.

This is not a cliché. This is real. Either way, in life – circumstances change. It does. Great men are those who know how to manage change. Times can change. Seasons can change. It is a foolish man that denies when change is knocking on the door. Even when 90% of the states results are collated and some people had known what the results had stated  clearly over twenty four hours before the original INEC declaration, someone like Mr. Femi Fani Kayode ( Campaign Spokesman for Jonathan) was still declaring that  we are in for a shocker. This is called – living in denial. Stop living in denial – if the software has been changed - update and stop fighting change or you get infected with Virus and your system will crash. And do it earlier not when its late!

4. STICK TO YOUR CALLING

There is never a time that I felt very hopeless about the strength, depth and capacity of the church in Nigeria to be relevant. For this election, Christian leaders dropped the ball completely. They were more agents of confusion, apathy, greed and tyranny. They were all saying things in their capacity as a Man of God that is better left for the OPC, MEND and AREWA leaders!
Jer 23:1  Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD.

5. NO ONE CAN RIDE ON LUCK FOREVER

We see it in sports everyday! We teach it – “one day of favor is greater than 1000 years of labor”. Yes, agreed! However, favor is not a reaction agent itself. It’s a catalyst. It works with other main chemicals to achieve result. You may require favor in marriage to succeed but you have to learn the fundamentals of how to manage the opposite sex and implement or else you will become an “Ex”. The first time may be luck, second may be luck – sooner than later you have to own it and put a structure round the tons of favor you receive. I feel the highly incomprehensible way the Chibok girls matter was handled in enough to dethrone any seating President in any sane environment. Luck won’t bring those girls back! There has to be a plan. I just pray it will never be too late for those young girls.

6. GOODWILL USUALLY OUTLASTS GOOD LUCK

Goodwill is people perception about you particularly in the area of integrity and character based purely on your history. The more time you have to show who you are, the more goodwill you accumulate or fritter away. I witnessed the frenzy that brought President Jonathan to power in 2011. There was hope. There was excitement. It was beyond Good luck. The good will was there and it was visible! In 2015, someone said it was not Buhari who won, it was Jonathan who lost! Why? Goodwill disappeared.

7. TEAMWORK WILL ALWAYS SUPERCEED INDIVIDUAL BRILLIANCE

Talent is good! Skills are brilliant but it can only go so far. Every great talent like Jobs and Gates usually thrived because they have a team to carry the vision forward. The Japanese women team that won the women’s world cup years back barely had a special outstanding individual talent but as a team they were disciplined and organized.

There is no way Buhari would have won without the team support from South West and North Central which he has not been having in his previous election participation. Find an alliance that works for your life – to grow, to lose weight, to pray better, to have a functional home!
Buhari will not succeed beyond the team he forms around him! Bad team – failure! Naaman would have missed his breakthrough if not for that little maid and the servant who prevailed on him to go to the pool and wash as instructed. Who is with you?

8. VICTORY IS SWEET BUT IT WILL NOT BE THERE FOREVER

Victory is there for General to savor. However, every victory is a burden to perform and behave! General Buhari, APC – we are watching! Learn from the message of the election and perform or the laws of change will remove you too after four years

May we fulfill our destinies and be relevant till the end of our lives in Jesus name.

Not true in ALL cases! God's devine WILL prevails in the affairs of men! Man cannot do anything unless permitted by God and His children! Let's concentrate in building Nigeria!

agree there is a place for God's divine will but that does not mean we dont have a part. If we don't have a part in contributing to His divine will - He will not be God!. Saul and David had same shot at Kingship - one messed it up and another maximized. The Lesson I learnt is not even about Nigeria. Its that we can learn from it and apply it in our lives. There are marriages and ministries that has failed - not because their establishment is not God's will but because the beneficiaries did not utilize it on the long haul to build a lasting good will and legacy! There is a place for the POWER of God- There is a place for the WISDOM of God! thanks
