THE RETREAT SPOKE TO ME - WHAT I LEARNT LAST WEEKEND

WHAT IS THIS? THE RETREAT SPOKE TO ME - WHAT I LEARNT LAST WEEKEND.

by Evangelist Bee on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 8:52am
A lot of stuffs happened at the SALT RETREAT last weekend  but I feel I should share some of the things( including the mundane ones) that I learnt

1.    The Gospel is always relevant.
I  struggled with myself on the first night of the retreat. I felt I should “tone” down the discipleship message I had to give “ more acceptance”. I was encouraged when Heaven reminded me that our assignment is not to make men feel good but to preach the gospel. I obeyed and God defended the gospel. I remembered what Paul said in  Romans 1:16 -I have complete confidence in the gospel; it is God's power to save all who believe…

2.    Don’t  JUDGE people  by their appearance.
As years grew in ministry, I have learnt over and over again that we should not write people off based on  their appearance. They might be the main reason for your ministry that day. I saw the “Unholy looking” people  leading in the quest for God’s presence and some “ Holy looking” people taking God for granted. James 4:6 said- But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

3.    A little  bit of “ more”  Quality  does  not Hurt
One of the principles of consistency taught was to apply further Mathematics. We learnt that  we should pursue progress and that our dy/dx (You remember?)  must not be negative neither should it be zero! It must always be positive i.e dy/dx>0. The retreat itself  had a positive increase this year in the quality of planning and execution- Those young men and women are waiting to take over – Leaders get ready!Haggai  2:9 said -  The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.

4.    Our commitment to God is till Eternity
On the second day of the retreat a  pretty  young woman walked up to me and saidI remember you came to my middle school to preach about 17years ago in Sagamu in Nigeria. I was excited seeing someone who heard the scripture and the gospel of change 17years ago who is still interested in hearing more. Our walk with God is not time-bound. Its for eternityPhillipians 3:13 says  Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

5.    Be careful what you use as a teaching tool when you preach
While  I was speaking on the importance of mentorship in  our walk in consistency, I gave the example of Theo Walcott (an Arsenal  and England Soccer Player) as a protégé of David Bekham( who I guess needs no introduction). Theo recently publicly talked about how David mentored him back to form after a disappointing last minute drop from England World cup squad. He mentioned how he seats with him at games to LEARN. I did not know I was stirring a rivalry between premier league supporters! I had to  plead for peace. During break, an Arsenal fan came to share that Theo had scored two goals in a live match  while I was speaking. I mentioned the funny incidence in the next session and later got to know that Theo finally got  an hat trick ( 3 goals in one match). Some Arsenal fans had asked that I continue to use their players to preach so they can keep scoring! I don’t know  about that  but I know1Co 1:27  But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

I saw sincere and genuine reconciliation with God last weekend – my cry is that it will last the test of time and Eternity. I pray that  you will last and endure because  … whoever holds out to the end will be saved- Mat 10:22
